For me, Capa wore the dazzling matador’s costume, but he never went in for the kill; a great player, he fought generously for himself and for others in a whirlwind.  Destiny was determined that he should be struck down at the height of his glory.  – Henri Cartier-Bresson, 1996

HCB’s words sum up elegantly what Capa represented in my mind – the generous, almost chivalrous fight in an unscrupulous world.  A standard bearer for all photographers.  Sure, he had his shortcomings, but in some ways I think all of us aspire to be someone like him – Unassuming, recognized, generous, well-loved, and in love with life.  At least that’s what it seems on the surface.  What struggles he experienced we will never know in whole.
